A Complete Guide to the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S 450
Mercedes debuted the new and improved S-Class series at the 2017 Shanghai Motor Show with new features for all the models in the lineup. Starting with the S 450, and going all the way up to the S 650, they made a number of revisions both on the inside and the exterior. Even the base model has a bunch of new features, so here is your complete guide to the 2018 Mercedes-Benz S 450.
All of the models got a new look both in the front and the back. The revisions give it a more similar look to the E-Class of vehicles and their curvier appearance, and they also got the radiator grille that was once only available on the V-12 models. The S 450 has new LED headlights and taillights, and Mercedes made new 20-inch wheels available.
Mercedes stepped up the luxury in the cabin of the S 450. There are two new natural grain ash wood trims available and three new color combinations for the upholstery. You can even add ambient lighting with 64 different colors to choose from. Mercedes also created the new ENERGIZING Comfort Feature. This allows you to link these systems in the vehicle and create different configurations to suit your particular mood or need at the time. The system can link the lighting, climate, fragrance, seats, and temperature to create the ultimate driving experience.
The optional Magic Body Control with Curve Tilting allows you to get in the most comfortable position possible. This system adjusts both the driver and the passenger, so they stay put even when you head around a tight corner.
New technology features include an updated COMAND® multimedia system with two 12.3-inch high-resolution displays that Mercedes puts under a single bonded glass panel. The steering wheel has touch-control buttons so you have full command of the system right within your reach — that way you don’t have to take your hands off the wheel or your eyes off the road.
The S 450 will be getting a new, powerful V-6 engine. This twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 monster generates 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque!
The Safety Features
The S 450 also gets updated safety features. The Active Distance Assist Distronic system can now adjust your speed before a corner, and it will slow down and speed up automatically. The updated system offers a wider range of speeds than the previous version, and it also uses the COMAND® maps information so it knows when to adjust your speed. The new 2018 S 450 will also come with Active Steering Assist, Active Speed Limit Assist, and Active Blind Spot Assist. The driver aid safety systems don’t stop there though. You’ll also get Active Lane Keep Assist, Active Emergency Stop Assist, and a Route-Based Speed Adaptation system to help make sure you stay safe on the road.
The 2018 S 450 will hit showroom floors late in 2017. You can talk to your dealer and pre-order one now, or wait until you can see it in person.
