3 of the Most Memorable Mercedes-Benz Cinematic Roles
Mercedes-Benz vehicles are some of the classiest cars out there, a reason many Hollywood films have added them to their scripts. Whether they’ve had small roles or appeared as the stars in a movie, their performances aren’t likely to go unnoticed. With that in mind, here are three of the best Mercedes-Benz cinematic moments.
“The Bourne Supremacy” – Mercedes-Benz G-Glass
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class makes its mark in this film during an epic car chase between Jason Bourne (played by Matt Damon) and the Russian agent Kirill (Karl Urban). They have a showdown in Moscow, taking to the streets in their own vehicles: Bourne in a Volga 3310 taxi and Kirill in the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
The chase follows into a three-lane tunnel, where Kirill whips out a pistol and starts shooting Bourne, despite there being a civilian vehicle between the Volga taxi and the Mercedes-Benz. As one car tries to outwit the other, the chase through the tunnel appears to be too much for Kirill, whose G-Glass eventually slams into a concrete pillar, leaving Bourne as the ultimate victor in this intense cinematic scene.
“Transformers: Dark of the Moon” – Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG®
The luxurious Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG® acts as an antagonist in this film, serving as the disguised form of the Decepticon Soundwave. He’s presented to Sam Witwicky’s (Shia LaBeouf) girlfriend Carly (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley) as a gift from Sam’s boss Dylan Gould (Patrick Dempsey), who’s smitten with her.
However, Dylan partners with the Decepticons to exploit Sam’s alliance with their enemy, the Autobots. When Sam and Carly realize Dylan is working with the Decepticons, they attempt to drive away in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG®, but instead witness Soundwave transform into his true self and capture Carly soon after. While attempting to save her, Sam and the Autobots find themselves in a Chicago battle with the Decepticons. Fortunately, the Autobots manage to triumph over their enemies, ultimately killing Soundwave in the process.
“Mad Max: Fury Road” – Mercedes-Benz W123
This film features a Mercedes-Benz W123 situated on top of an American M814 military cargo truck. As a stretch limousine model with lattice cut windows, this car doesn’t give off the nicest appearance, but what else can you expect from a Mercedes traveling through an African desert in a post-apocalyptic setting?
Dubbed the “People Eater’s Limousine,” it serves as the vehicle of choice for the People Eater himself and as a refueling station for a large fleet of vehicles on a mission to find and recapture the War Rig, a Tatra T815/Chevrolet Fleetmaster hybrid driven by Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron). However, like most pursuits, they have to cease sometime. In this case, the People Eater’s Limousine has an unfortunate run-in with the War Rig, leading to its ultimate demise in a fiery explosion at the end.
From exhilarating car chases to epic blasts, there are plenty of times where Mercedes-Benz vehicles have had great cinematic moments in Hollywood films. This list highlights just three of our favorites.
